City of Brier, Washington

2024 Comprehensive Plan Update

Washington State's Growth Management Act requires that cities and counties update their Comprehensive Plans every 10 years. The next update of the City's Comprehensive plan is due in December of 2024. The 2024 Update will plan for the next 20 years of population and employment growth, through the year 2044.

The purpose of the Comprehensive Plan is to envision the city's future and describe the city's long-term vision for growth, infrastructure, and services. It is a living document that articulates a series of goals and policies intended to guide the day-to-day decisions of the elected officials and city staff. The most recent update to Brier's Comprehensive Plan took place in 2015.

From March through August 2024 the city will be hosting open house meetings, public hearings, and gathering public input to help shape the Comprehensive Plan and accommodate growth over the next 20 years.

In addition to the Comprehensive Plan Update, the city will be drafting and implementing new regulations mandated by the state to accommodate Accessory Dwelling Units and to provide additional 'Missing Middle Housing'.

What's Next

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Open House Meetings held during March, April, and May. The city received many public comments that will be discussed during the preparation of draft documents. The city will continue to accept public comments on changes to the Comprehensive Plan through May 31, 2024.

Following May 31, 2024, city staff will meet with City Council during their regularly scheduled Work Sessions to review the public comment and prioritize work that will go into the drafts. As Draft Elements are completed, they will be available to the public on this site. If you would like to be notified of when the draft documents are available you may email the city planner to be added to the CompPlan24 email list.

For additional information or to provide comments on the Comprehensive Plan you may call or email the city planner. Written comments may also be accepted by writing to the City Hall address listed at the bottom of this page.
